A Fletcher Jones Company
'Wowed' by the top-tier products and services they find here, patrons of Audi Beverly Hills often find themselves asking how we do it. The answer revolves largely around one Fletcher, "Ted", Jones Jr. - a gentleman credited with pioneering a revolutionary approach to selling vehicles. An approach in which "customers" are deemed "guests" and treated with the same level of service you'd expect from a five-star resort.
Where did such out-of-the-box thinking come from?
Audi Beverly Hills is proud to say, it runs in the family. Back in 1946, Ted Jones' father, Fletcher Jones Sr., met a man on a golf course who would forever change his and his family's destinies. Impressed by how successful the man had become by selling cars, Fletcher Jones Sr. decided to shift directions away from law school, and ultimately a life of legalese, toward entrepreneurship within the automotive market.
After scraping together $1,200 - a veritable fortune in those days - Jones Sr. opened a modest used car dealership in downtown LA. He sold his first vehicle for $70.00. Just seventy dollars; can you imagine that?
Shortly thereafter, Jones Sr. opened a new car dealership, where he sold two American brands: Chrysler and Plymouth. To help gain fanfare, Jones Sr. spoke directly with potential consumers via TV and newspaper advertising. The personalized, benefit-driven approach garnered great success then, as it continues to today.
Over the next 15 years, Jones Sr. expanded his operations to include Chevrolet and other GM-brand cars, opening an array of new car dealerships across southern California; Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas, NV. By taking advantage of unprecedented growth in these markets, he quickly earned a reputation within the industry as a "rising star".
In the mid sixties, Jones Sr.'s son, "Ted" entered the picture, working a variety of entry-level jobs at his father's dealerships. Like his father, Ted demonstrated great initiative. As such; it didn't take him long to go from sweeping the floors, to working in the parts department to sales and management, and ultimately to opening his own new car dealerships.
The first dealership Ted opened with the guidance of his father featured fuel-efficient Mazda vehicles...a fortuitous choice given the then imminent oil crisis. Not one to stay within the brand "box", Ted soon opened a variety of other dealerships, which sold a dynamic mix of domestic and import brands. At this point he ran a total of eight dealerships in southern California and Las Vegas, in cooperation with his father.
By 1991, "Ted" decided to push the proverbial envelope even further and enter the luxury car market. Ultimately, he wanted to create one of the nation's largest Mercedes-Benz centers. To start, he purchased a bankrupt luxury car dealership in affluent Newport Beach. Since, Ted has added even more dealership to the Fletcher Jones Family of fine dealerships. In Hawaii, Fletcher Jones dealerships now include: Mercedes-Benz of Honolulu, Mercedes-Benz of Maui, Jaguar of Honolulu, Land Rover of Honolulu, Porsche of Hawaii, Big Island Honda - Hilo, and Big Island Honda - Kona. In California: Fletcher Jones Motorcars (in Newport Beach), Fletcher Jones Motorcars of Fremont, Porsche of Fremont and our latest additions, Audi Beverly Hills and Mercedes-Benz of Ontario. In Nevada: Fletcher Jones Imports, Mercedes-Benz of Henderson, Fletcher Jones Toyota/Scion and Jones West in Reno. And, in the Chicago metropolitan area in Illinois: Fletcher Jones Audi, Fletcher Jones Honda, Fletcher Jones Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz of Chicago.
Continuing the family tradition, Ted - who now presides over one of the most successful luxury automobile dealer groups in the U.S. - introduced his son, Fletcher Jones III, to the business when he was in high school. Jones III is now working with his father to bring his own personal insights, contributions and goals to the Fletcher Jones' family of dealerships, helping to foster innovation and preserve the family legacy.
