Palos Verdes Peninsula Drive

With miles of coastline, immense cliffs, winding roads and sandy beaches, you will have a difficult time keeping your eyes on the road when taking this route. Lying just outside of the LA city limits and encompassing four other cities, The Palos Verdes Peninsula is arguably one of the most striking drives in Southern California. This road is not made for fast drivers unless you want to miss out on seeing the Trump Golf Course, scenes filmed from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, or simply breathtaking vistas around almost every turn. You may even get a chance to see the Palos Verdes Blue, an endangered butterfly resident to the peninsula, but that’s only if you’re lucky.

San Gabriel Canyon Road

If you’re feeling adventurous on the State Route 39 and want a quick getaway, then this rocky hillside road is the perfect detour for you. Passing two reservoirs, daring hikers, and a nine mile round-trip trek to the ‘Bridge to Nowhere,’ you will find yourself on the stunning San Gabriel Canyon Road. If that doesn’t sound exciting enough, then feel free to bungee-jump off the abandoned 1930’s arch bridge. Take your pick.

Mulholland Drive

Although there are many remarkable drives within the city Los Angeles, Mulholland Drive is undeniably the most celebrated route in the country. Running approximately 50 miles through the Western Santa Monica Mountains, it lies at the border of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Near the Eastern end you can explore two of the largest municipal Parks in the nation, Griffith and Elysian. When coasting out towards the foothills, you will notice it is set apart from the rest by the outstanding views of Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley. If you’re a romantic, you won’t want to miss out on these views.
