9/4         Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan

Patti LaBelle has been singing, writing, and acting since the early sixties. Originally from Philadelphia,  she is most commonly recognized for her music, but has recently participated in the TV show Dancing With the Stars.

9/5         Charlie Wilson

Former lead vocalist for The Gap Band, Uncle Charlie has been singing, songwriting, and producing his way through many achievements and awards. The Tulsa, OK native has shared stages with popular figures like Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, and Pharrell Williams.

9/6         Alejandra Guzman and Ana Victoria

La Reina del Rock (The Queen of Rock), Alejandra has an artistic career spanning 26 years with more than 10 million albums sold, 16 released albums, and 30 singles in radio’s Top 10 hits. She inherited her musical talents from her parents and has made great contributions to Mexico’s music scene.

9/7         Skillet and For King and Country

A Christian band from Memphis, TN, Skillet falls into the alternative rock genre and were ranked in the Top 5 Hardest Working Bands in 2011 for their relentless tour schedules.

9/11       Kool & The Gang, The Ohio Players, and Rose Royce

Jersey City’s version of jazz, R&B, soul, funk, and disco, Kool & The Gang have sold over 70 million albums worldwide since forming as the Jazziacs in 1964. Familiar tunes include “Hollywood Swinging” and “Jungle Boogie.”

9/12       ZZ Top and Blackberry Smoke

ZZ Top might not be the sound you’d think to come out of Houston, TX, but strong blues roots and humorous lyric motifs have brought plenty of success since their debut album in 1971. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

9/13       Justin Moore, Kellie Pickler, and Colt Ford

If you know the words to “Till My Last day” and “Lettin’ the Night Roll” you might be a fan of country music singer and songwriter, Justin Moore.  One of country’s hottest singers, he has roots in Poyen, AK, but moved to Nashvilee, TN to pursue his musical dreams.

9/17       Bell Biv DeVoe, Tony! Toni! Toné!, and Ginuwine

 

Who knew that Boston, Mass gave us the “new jack swing” sound of Bel Biv DeVoe? Their debut album Poison rose to #1 in 1990 and the mix of hip-hop, funk, soul, and pop music put this New Edition spin off in Billboard’s Hot 100 history.

 

9/18       Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Outlaws

 

Before settling on the name Lynyrd Skynyrd, this Jacksonville, FL group tried on a few others before rising to stardom in 1969. Worldwide recognition for live performances and signature tunes “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird” helped them to popularize the southern hard-rock genre.

 

9/19       Train

Lead singer Pat Monahan gives the signature sound of Train. Reigning from San Fransisco, this Grammy Award winning group has sold over 10 million albums and 30 million tracks worldwide.

9/20       Paquita la del Barrio and Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles

“Paquita from the neighborhood” is known for her songs against sexist male culture. Her rancheras and other Mexican styles are jukebox staples in many clubs and cantinas in more than her neighborhoods of Veracruz and Mexico City.

9/24       The Beach Boys

Emerging at the vanguard of the “California Sound”, The Beach Boys formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, CA. They rose to international popularity for their lyrics that evoked a Southern California youth culture of surfing, cars, and romance.

9/25       WAR and Tierra & Malo

Long Beach, CA has made many contributions to the music industry and WAR is no exception. 1969 brought this funk band on the scene with hits like “Low Rider”, “Spill the Wine”, and “Why Can’t We Be Friends.” Younger generations might recognize their sampled sounds and recordings by more recent artists such as TLC, Janet Jackson, and Korn.

9/26       Jake Owen and Parmalee

A transplant from Vero Beach, FL, Jake Owen is now a Nashville native with a string of country music hits. Jake is headlining this show, but he has toured with many big names including Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, and Sugarland to name a few.

9/27       Chicago and Boz Scaggs

The self-described “rock and roll band with horns”, Chicago, is actually from Chicago, IL. They are one of the longest-running and most successful rock groups, second to only The Beach Boys. Their music might have started out as politically charged and experimental, but they have found much success in a predominantly softer sound that proved to generate several hit ballads.
