It takes a lot for an automaker like a niche car like the RS3 to make the decision to sell it in other markets. But that’s just the leap made for the 2018 Audi RS3, which is arriving in America for the first time. They made a good call, because enthusiasts are loving it. But what else would you expect them to feel for a roguish, 400-hp sport sedan?
With its roots in the popular A3, the RS3 leads with more aggressive styling, and an arsenal of performance technology. The centerpiece is obviously the 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five, which points its four-hundred ponies to its standard Quattro system by way of a seven-speed DCT. The driving experienced is surprisingly nuanced, but undeniably on a mission to wring as many smiles out of every mile. It hits sixty in 3.9 seconds with launch control, and the mean growl, burble, and pop of the engine is sure to pull at the corners of your mouth. But beyond that, there are plenty of great surprises.
